About us

Building a Better Future for Animals Across North Carolina

The NC Animal Advocacy Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating lasting, statewide improvements for companion animals through advocacy, education, collaboration, and legislative change.

Our Why

Cats Eating Treats

While thousands of dedicated shelters, rescues, and volunteers work every day to save individual animals, we will focus on addressing the systemic issues that place so many animals at risk in the first place. Our mission is to bring organizations, communities, professionals, and policymakers together to create practical, sustainable solutions that improve animal welfare across North Carolina.

We believe meaningful change happens when people work together. educating communities, and advocating for long-term systemic change

Our organization serves as a collaborative voice for animal welfare by supporting evidence-based policies, promoting responsible pet ownership, expanding access to affordable spay and neuter services, improving shelter outcomes, strengthening animal protection laws, and helping local organizations share knowledge and resources.

Walking Two Dogs

Rather than duplicating the incredible work already happening throughout our state, we partner with shelters, rescues, veterinarians, municipal leaders, law enforcement, and advocates to identify challenges, develop solutions, and advocate for policies that benefit both animals and the communities they live in.

What we do

  • Advocate for stronger animal welfare laws and public policy.

  • Promote affordable and accessible spay and neuter programs.

  • Support initiatives that reduce shelter intake and euthanasia.

  • Educate communities on responsible pet ownership and humane practices.

  • Connect organizations across North Carolina to share ideas, resources, and best practices.

  • Conduct research and use data to guide effective solutions.

  • Build partnerships that create measurable, lasting change for animals.

Our Approach

We believe advocacy is most effective when it is collaborative, respectful, and rooted in facts. By bringing together diverse perspectives—from rescue organizations and shelters to veterinarians, government agencies, and community members—we can solve complex problems and create meaningful improvements that benefit animals statewide.

Every policy improved, every partnership formed, and every community empowered brings us one step closer to a more humane North Carolina.
Together, we can create lasting change—not just for today's animals, but for generations to come.
